Today was the day of the inauguration of President Barack Hussein Obama.
It is so exciting, so thrilling, so historic, so amazing, such a HUGE, GIANT DEAL.
It's just ending, and I bawled all the way through it, from the invocation to the benediction.
And the benediction, oh the benediction! Delivered by the Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Dr. Martin Luther King, the benediction was the most perfect icing on the unbelievably delicious layer cake, ending thusly:
"We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back... when brown can stick around... when yellow will be mellow... when the red man can get ahead, man... and when white will embrace what is right. Let all those who'll do justice and love mercy say amen. And amen.
And amen."
I feel like an American, and I'm damn proud to be one, for the first time in a very long time.
Amen.
