The afternoon that Gideon and I went to see Trout Fishing at the Mucky Duck, we also went by Weir park and played for a while. At the park, there were 3 brothers playing with a really cool RC car. They were kind enough to let Gideon try it out for a few minutes and he fell in love with it.
I wrote down the name of it (EQAULIZER) and came home and looked on the internet for it, thinking we could just order online. Turns out it's a long since discontinued Radio Shack product, but I was able to find one on ebay for $20 and order it.
A few days later, it was here! Hurrah! There was just one problem. It needed a special battery. Off we went to Amazon and ordered one, hoping it was in fact the one we needed and that it would actually work.
It got here in a little over a week, and we pulled it out of the package with excitement before realizing it needed to be charged.
Ay yi yi!
So we plugged that bad boy in and the next day we were in business!
We played around the house with it a bit but this is our first foray into the park with it, where we really had room to go crazy with it. (Note I said "we..." Gideon is not the only one who likes playing with it!)
And it was only like 2 weeks turnaround time from when we initially saw it, LOL.
The lengths went to for this toy...

So here's Gideon doing with it what he likes to do best, which is pressing the button to make it speed away and then chasing it. *laughs* He doesn't quite get the whole RC concept just yet - he still picks it up and points it in the direction he wants it to go rather than just steering it with the control, for instance. Nevertheless, he thinks it is just about the coolest thing ever.

So there we were, zooming our little car along in the park, when this darling little girl in pink took notice of us. She was named Molly, and she and her mom admired Gideon's mad skillz with the car, and she was squealing with delight as it zipped and flipped and crashed into things. So Gideon, my sweet little man, offered her a chance to try it, and this within 2 minutes of first really getting to try it out himself. I was about a million kinds of proud of him. Gideon and Molly took turns playing for a little while when sure enough, along came a rapscallion of a little boy, Will. Will was pretty emphatic about his desire to try out the car, and Gideon, amazing kid that he is, obliged. Then all three of them played with it and took turns and generally froliced in the most amazingly cooperative manner. It was really impressive, especially for Gideon, who had only just acquired this toy and was trying it out for the first time, particularly in light of the fact that we have NEVER had kids over to our house, a sad fact that results from our circumstances and upon which I will not dwell.

The bottom line is, it was an impressive display of cooperative behavior for a tiny tribe of 2 and three year old kids, and I was so, so, so, so proud of Gideon.

Here's Gideon climbing on Clara, above, and playing with another little lad with whom he made friends at yet another playground, below. He's such a sweet, friendly kid. It swells my heart.

Love that kid.
