Beoga loves Gideon!

...and we love Beoga, too.

I'm really behind on my blogging and am about to post an onslaught of sorta old stuff.
This was totally back in April, but I'm gonna post about it anyway, 'cause it was cool.

Gideon and Clara and I sometimes go to the Mucky Duck together to catch some live music. A very cool thing about the Mucky Duck is the fact that you can do this - bring your kids along and see great music in a comfortable, intimate setting.
So one evening Gideon said to me, "let's go to the Mucky Duck." I checked the calendar and sho'nuff, there was a band playing that night that sounded like something he would enjoy: Beoga, from Ireland. http://www.beogamusic.com/

It was $20 each for us to get in, which is a little on the high end for The Duck, and... well, it's a lot, when you're talking about an impromptu activity for a three year old, particularly one which will be starting around the time they would normally be calling it a night.
What the heck, said I, and off we went to see Beoga.
We left early 'cause Gideon was getting tired, but we still ended up getting way more than our money's worth.

Gideon was, of course, the only kid of any age in the place, and he's so darn wee and adorable that he really attracted a lot of attention. Beoga went NUTS for him. They were high-fiving him and waving to him from the stage and talking about him between songs. They came over and asked him what his name was, and all the heard was the ending sound of his name, so they thought he was "Ian." We just shrugged and let them call him Ian, thinking it wasn't worth clarifying.
Gideon was totally busting a move the whole time, clapping and dancing, and everyone was loving it, most of all Beoga.

We bought three CDs, which Gideon listens to all the time. Clara and I love it, too. We blast it in the car and all sing along loudly.

When we left, they sweetly waved goodbye to their new friend "Ian" and his mama as we left the club.

The next week was the International Festival downtown. http://www.ifest.org/ Each year, a different culture is featured, and there have been some AMAZING musicians appearing at iFest over the years. This year, the featured country was Ireland, and the headlining band was Beoga.
We would probably have gone to iFest anyway (I'm a real festival/activity/event whore) but when we saw Beoga on the ticket, we knew we had to go.
So we got to see Beoga a couple more times, on a tiny Mucky Duck stage, and on the huge main stage, complete with Irish step dancers swarming around them.
It was horribly, painfully hot, and we were all dripping with sweat and just generally wilting, but Beoga totally perked up when they spotted "Ian" in the crowd.
They dedicated a song to him and in introducing it, began to tell all about how he'd come to see them at the club and was dancing so wildly and beautifully. Eamon http://www.beogamusic.com/html/eamon_murray.html told a hilarious fictitious tale involving Gideon drinking vodka and Red Bulls and getting wild, and everyone was cracking up and looking over to Gideon and clapping, which of course, I loved.
That's right, clap for my boy, people. Clap for my boy.
